Sharp Objects

Sharp Objects

By: Gillian Flynn

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn follows Chicago-based journalist Camille Preaker. Camille has just been released from a brief stay at a psychiatric hospital when she is assigned to a story in her small Missouri hometown. Two preteens have been murdered, and Camille is sent to report the crime for her Chicago newspaper.

Camille has a strained relationship with her hypochondriac mother, and she barely knows her 13-year-old half sister, Amma. Amma is a beautiful and popular teenager who strives to make her mother happy. With a teenager in the house and a mother who is constantly trying to make people feel better, Camille is forced to face the demons of her past. Camille must face these demons in order to solve the crime at hand and also to survive this visit back home.

This novel is by far the most thrilling and twisted novel I’ve ever read. I read Sharp Objects in less than two days–it’s impossible to put down once you get started. I definitely recommend this book, but I will warn you that it can be graphic. HBO is creating a television series starring Amy Adams based on this book that comes out in June of this year. I’m excited for the show, but I don’t think the shock factor will be the same if you wait to read the book until after you’ve watched the show. If you want to really feel all of the twists and turns, read the book before you see the show. You won’t regret it!

**I didn’t explain much in the description of the book because I don’t want to spoil anything. There are so many surprises, and I don’t want to ruin those surprises for any of you!**
